Yu Yu Hakusho – Suzaku Battle Feats

I decided to give these feats their own blog post so the other one with the previous three Saint Beasts didn’t feel too cluttered. There are some pretty interesting things to go over, so let’s get started.

Yusuke’s Rei Gun

Yusuke shoots his new and improved Rei Gun at Suzaku. He deflects it and the result is a pretty big explosion when it hits the ceiling, and it punches a sizable hole.

First we need to figure out the size of Suzaku’s tower.

The entrance to Suzaku’s room is pretty clearly the half-way point, so I’ll be doubling whatever result I get here. Yusuke is 1.60 m tall here. (See YYH Character heights blog post)

283 / 30 =9.433 * 1.6 = 15.093 * 2 = 30.186 m, the diameter of Suzaku’s room.

51 / 122 = .418 * 30.186 = 12.618 m, Rei Gun hole diameter

For a later feat, I also scaled the height of Suzaku’s chamber here.

47 / 122 = .385 * 30.186 = 11.622 m, the height of Suzaku’s chamber.

The trickiest part is finding the thickness of what was destroyed. Unfortunately this is th best view I could find. I used the most exposed thickness in the panel, but I have a feeling it would normally be more here.

For the sake of simplicity, I’m going to consider the hole a cylinder because an extruded curve’s volume is beyond my knowledge.

Volume of rock destroyed = 116.793 m^3

As we see in the feat above, it’s quite an explosive blast and the debris shoots quite far, so we’ll be comparing it to exploding rock in mining at its maximum. Maximum explosive fragmentation = 20 j/cc

116.793 m^3 = 116,793,000 cm^3

20 * 116,793,000 = 2,335,860,000 joules or 558.284 kg of TNT

 

Suzaku’s Lightning

Suzaku is able to summon a lightning bolt and use it for his attacks. First off, how impressive is this? Well, according to this article, the average bolt of lightning contains 1,000,000,000 joules of energy, or roughly 239 kg of TNT. This goes along with the power of Yusuke’s Rei Gun nicely, but keep in mind he uses these attacks over time and this doesn’t factor his own youki in the mix.

Another interesting tidbit is that the narrator tells us that normal humans get reduced to ash from a single touch when Suzaku uses Dark Lightning punch. So how much energy does it take to vaporize a normal human?

I’ll be using this article as reference. According to it, a healthy man is 60% water, 16% body fat, 16% protein, 6% minerals, and the other 2% are small things which I’m probably going to ignore for simplicity.

Well, let’s go by the average Japanese male sizes of 1.70 m and 68 kg.

We’ll use latent heat to figure out how much energy it takes to vaporize parts of a human body. The biggest part of a human body is water. It makes up 60% of our bodies. That means 40.8 kg of water being vaporized. A body starts turning to ash at 1400 C, and the human body is 37.5 C on average, so our temp change is 1362.5 C. The specific heat of water is 4,186 joule/kg C

40.8 * 4,186 * 1362.5 = 232,699,740 Joules

Next we have body fat.  That comes out to 10.88 kg. Fat has a specific heat of 2348, and the temp change remains the same.

10.88 * 2,348 * 1362.5 = 34,806,752 Joules

Next is protein, which is almost the exact same except with a different specific heat. So 10.88 kg, and per the source above, the specific heat is 3,421.

10.88 * 3,421 * 1362.5 = 50,712,904 Joules

Finally we have minerals, which I guess is bones and things like that? That comes out to 4.08 kg. Specific heat of human bone has been found to be anywhere from 1,140-2,370. I’ll use the low-end to be safe.

4.08 * 1,140 * 1,362.5 = 6,337,260 Joules

These all combine to become 324,556,656 Joules or 77.571 kg of TNT

Oof, well that was some work for an off-hand statement… but hey, at least now I know!

 

Yusuke/Suzaku Final Clash

In one hell of an explosion, Yusuke and Suzaku’s final clash destroys his chamber. We have all the measurements we’ll need from earlier, thankfully.

Chamber diameter = 30.186 m

Chamber height = 11.622 m

Chamber wall thickness = .934 m

I’m going to use a little trick to get the real volume since this is a hollow dome.

With this calculator, I can input the height and diameter to get a volume of 4,980.588. Now I’ll enter new values, with the height being .934 m less, and the diameter being 1.868 less (to account for both sides). The result is 4,000.745. Now I just have to subtract the results to get the real volume destroyed.

4,980.588- 4,000.745 = 979.843 m^3 of rock destroyed

979.843m^3 = 979,843,000 cm^3

This is another violent explosion, arguably moreso than the Rei Gun, so we’ll use 20 J/cc again.

979,843,000 * 20 = 19,596,860,000 J or 4.684 tons of TNT

 

To summarize…

Yusuke’s Rei Gun (Maze Castle) – 558.284 kg of TNT

Average energy of lightning bolts (Which Suzaku absorbs) – 239 kg of TNT

Minimum energy of Dark Lightning Punch – 77.571 kg of TNT

Yusuke/Suzaku final clash – 4.684 tons of TNT
