One Piece – Post Enies Lobby Feats

Garp Throws a Giant Cannonball

Pretty self-explanatory. Garp gets a little carried away in pursuing Luffy and throws a giant cannonball at him.

Zoro is 1.78 m tall. He’s 48 pixels compared to the Sunny’s mast at 83.

83 / 48 = 1.729 * 1.78 = 3.078 m, diameter of Sunny’s mast

The Sunny’s mast is 4 pixels compared to the cannonball at 259 and distance between ships at 220.

259 / 4 = 64.75 * 3.078 = 199.301 m, cannonball diameter

220 / 4 = 55 * 3.078 = 169.29 m, distance between ships

Based on the chain in the above panel, the launch angle appears to be no more than 5 degrees. Using that as our angle and the ship distance for how far the cannonball traveled in the projectile motion calculator, the takeoff velocity comes to 97.778 m/s.

As a sphere, the cannonball has a volume of 4,145,086.45 m^3. Iron has a density of 7,874 kg/m^3.

4,145,086.45 * 7,874 = 32,638,410,707.3 Kg, weight of cannonball

Garp is 2.87 m tall. He’s 196 pixels compared to his arm length at 104.

104 / 196 = .531 * 2.87 = 1.524 m, Garp’s arm length

Based on the above scan, he has the chain over his shoulder, ready to throw. This indicates a 1/3rd circular movement, so 1/3rd the circumference of his arm length as the radius. The total distance his arms acted upon the cannonball chain comes to 3.189 m.

Now for acceleration…

a =  v^2 / (2 * d)

97.778^2 / 2 * 3.189 = 1,498.987 m/s^2

Now force…

f = ma

32,638,410,707.3 * 1,498.987  = 48,924,553,350,903.505 N

And finally, we find work (energy)

w = f * d

48,924,553,350,903.505 * 3.189 = 156,020,400,636,031.278 J, or 37.3 Kilotons

Ace’s Crossfire

Ace’s Crossfire makes a large explosion, and… brings down Banana Rock, I think? That bit isn’t terribly clear to me, but I’m going to operate under the assumption that it was him and Blackbeard was simply laughing him off.

Ace is 1.85 m tall. He’s 43 pixels compared to the debris he’s standing on at 262.

262 / 43 = 6.093 * 1.85 = 11.272 m, length of debris

Now it’s important to keep in mind that Blackbeard purposely does not target Ace with his darkness at first. He wants to demonstrate the destruction of the town. So in the bottom panel, see that speck of white in the darkness? That’s the debris that ace is standing on. It took me a while to find this lead, because frankly, aside form this, Oda gives us nothing for scale. Thankfully, this is all we need.

357 / 6 = 59.5 * 11.272 = 670.684 m, diameter of barren area

The barren area in the top panel is 206 pixels compared to 11 for tree height.

11 / 206 = .053 * 670.684 = 35.546 m, height of trees

Tree is 20 pixels compared to part of Banana Rock’s height at 164 and rock width at 165.

164 / 20 = 8.2 * 35.546 = 291.477 m, cut off rock height

165 / 20 = 8.25 * 35.546 = 293.255 m, rock width

Banana Rock width is 18 pixels compared to rock full height at 48, and island diameter at 401.

48 / 18 = 2.667 * 293.255 = 782.111 m, full height of rock

401 / 18 = 22.278 * 293.255 = 6,533.135 m, Banaro Island diameter

782.111 – 291.477 = 490.634 m, height of fragmented rock

My assumption here is that the top of Banana Rock fell due to fragmentation of the rock below it. In Ace’s final clash with Blackbeard, there’s no sign of the rock. There are also hints of fragmentation in the actual panel of the feat, but it’s low on details.

Treating the fragmented area as a cylinder, the volume of rock would be 33,138,921.723 m^3

33,138,921.723 m^3 = 33,138,921,723,000 cm^3

Fragmentation = 8 J/cc

33,138,921,723,000 * 8 = 265,111,373,784,000 J, or 63.36 Kilotons

This shouldn’t surprise you since he’s meant to be the “final boss” of the series, but Blackbeard laughed this attack off. Zehahahaha!

Ace and Blackbeard Final Clash

Ace and Blackbeard’s final clash make a large explosion in the middle of Banaro island and send some shockwaves into the ocean.

As previously established, the island is 6,533.135 m in diameter. It’s 324 pixels compared to the combined blast at 86 and panel height at 475.

86 / 324 = .265 * 6,533.135 = 1,731.281 m, Ace/Blackbeard Clash AOE

The human vertical field of vision is 150 degrees.

475 / 150 = 3.167 Pixels/Degree

86 / 3.167 = 27.155 degrees, blast size

Using the angular size calculator, we can figure out how far away from our view the blast is taking place. Inputting size in meters and degrees, we find that the blast is 3,584.3 m from our view.

Since the shockwave didn’t destroy any rock, and there’s no implication that the island inhabitants died, I assume that this shockwave is of the “widespread destruction” variety, which, according to sd.net’s nuke calculator, means that the clash has a yield of roughly 115 Kilotons.

It’s also possible that the effects are all Ace and Blackbeard is simply absorbing his attack. Hard to say for sure.

I think it’s time to take a little break from One Piece Calculations. Being an ongoing series, I see no need to rush things. Next time I get back to this, I’ll be aiming to finish things up until the time skip.

RESULTS

Garp Throws a Giant Cannonball – 37.3 Kilotons

Ace’s Crossfire – 63.36 Kilotons
